Tour of Cambridgeshire

14 June 2026Peterborough, United Kingdom

Distance

128km

Elevation

500m

The Tour of Cambridgeshire is one of only a handful of UCI-recognized gran fondos in the United Kingdom, and one of the rare closed-road sportives in the country. The 128 km Gran Fondo route rolls through the flat, open countryside of Cambridgeshire on completely traffic-free roads, creating an authentic racing experience for amateur riders. With only 500 m of total elevation, this is the anti-mountain sportive — but don't mistake flat for easy. The exposed Fenland roads are notorious for crosswinds that can shatter a group and turn the ride into a battle of attrition. Drafting skills, group riding ability and raw power on the flat are what separate fast finishers from the rest. The competitive atmosphere and closed roads encourage racing behavior throughout. Training should focus on sustained power output and aerodynamic efficiency. Include long threshold and sweet spot intervals on flat terrain, group ride practice to hone drafting skills, and specific crosswind training if possible. Time trial efforts of 30-60 minutes at race pace will build the specific fitness needed. This is an event where watts per kilogram matters less than raw watts and the ability to sustain them.

Frequently asked questions about training for Tour of Cambridgeshire

How long do I need to prepare for Tour of Cambridgeshire?+
NUA builds your plan backwards from race day. For most gran fondos and similar distances, 12-16 weeks is the sweet spot — enough to build aerobic base, then sharpen race-specific efforts. With less than 8 weeks, NUA adapts the plan to focus on finishing strong rather than chasing peak performance.
What does NUA's training plan for Tour of Cambridgeshire look like?+
A weekly mix of Z2 endurance, race-specific intervals (climbs, sustained efforts, attacks), and structured recovery. Each week adapts based on your readiness, completed sessions, and how the previous week went. The closer to race day, the more specific the work — tapering kicks in automatically in the final two weeks.
Can NUA help if it's my first time at this distance?+
Yes. During onboarding NUA asks about your weekly volume, experience, and goal (finish, finish strong, target time). First-timers get a base-building approach focused on completing the distance comfortably. Experienced riders get more aggressive interval work and race-day pacing strategy.
Does NUA's plan for Tour of Cambridgeshire include indoor training?+
Yes. NUA prescribes both outdoor and indoor sessions based on your availability and weather. Indoor workouts export as ZWO files compatible with Zwift, Rouvy, TrainerRoad, and intervals.icu, and the full plan syncs to Garmin and Wahoo head units.
