L'Ardéchoise

20 June 2026Saint-Félicien, Ardèche, France

Distance

260km

Elevation

5200m

L'Ardéchoise is France's largest cyclosportive by participation, with over 15,000 riders descending on the Ardèche départment each June. The event offers multiple routes ranging from 60 km to the full 260 km, with the longest accumulating 5,200 m of climbing through the stunning gorges, plateaus and mountain roads of this underrated région of southern France. What makes L'Ardéchoise special is the incredible atmosphere: entire villages line the roads with food, music and encouragement. But don't let the festive spirit fool you — the full route is a serious endurance challenge. The Ardèche terrain is characterized by punchy, irregular climbs that never let you settle into a rhythm, and the accumulated fatigue of constant undulation is relentless. Training for the long route should emphasize endurance with plenty of vertical gain. Include rides with varied climbing profiles — short punchy hills mixed with longer sustained efforts. Build your ability to eat and ride simultaneously, as the aid stations are legendary but you still need to fuel between them. The event rewards consistent pacing and a strong aerobic base over raw power.

Frequently asked questions about training for L'Ardéchoise

How long do I need to prepare for L'Ardéchoise?+
NUA builds your plan backwards from race day. For most gran fondos and similar distances, 12-16 weeks is the sweet spot — enough to build aerobic base, then sharpen race-specific efforts. With less than 8 weeks, NUA adapts the plan to focus on finishing strong rather than chasing peak performance.
What does NUA's training plan for L'Ardéchoise look like?+
A weekly mix of Z2 endurance, race-specific intervals (climbs, sustained efforts, attacks), and structured recovery. Each week adapts based on your readiness, completed sessions, and how the previous week went. The closer to race day, the more specific the work — tapering kicks in automatically in the final two weeks.
Can NUA help if it's my first time at this distance?+
Yes. During onboarding NUA asks about your weekly volume, experience, and goal (finish, finish strong, target time). First-timers get a base-building approach focused on completing the distance comfortably. Experienced riders get more aggressive interval work and race-day pacing strategy.
Does NUA's plan for L'Ardéchoise include indoor training?+
Yes. NUA prescribes both outdoor and indoor sessions based on your availability and weather. Indoor workouts export as ZWO files compatible with Zwift, Rouvy, TrainerRoad, and intervals.icu, and the full plan syncs to Garmin and Wahoo head units.
