The UCI Gran Fondo World Series Brasil is the official UCI qualifying event in Brazil, held in the scenic Vale Europeu region of Santa Catarina. Now in its 4th edition, the 120 km Gran Fondo route with 2,100 m of climbing traverses the Serra Catarinense through towns with strong German and Italian heritage. Top finishers in each age group qualify for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championship. The course features a mix of rolling hills and sustained climbs through the lush green valleys and ridgelines of the Serra Catarinense. Several categorized climbs of 5-10 km at 4-6% gradient break up the route, with a tough final ascent in the closing 30 km. The November date brings warm spring weather, with temperatures around 25-30 C and the possibility of afternoon thunderstorms typical of the region. Training should build a strong aerobic base with race-specific intensity work. Include sweet spot and threshold intervals on climbs, practice sustained efforts of 20-40 minutes, and build long ride endurance up to 100-110 km with significant climbing. Pacing is critical as the later climbs punish those who start too aggressively. The UCI format rewards consistent, tactical riding.
