100km

Dénivelé

2800m

Iron Biker is one of the most legendary mountain bike races in Brazil, held annually in the historic colonial mining town of Mariana in Minas Gerais. The 100 km course with 2,800 m of elevation gain winds through centuries-old mining roads, rocky singletrack, and the rugged terrain of the Serra do Espinhaco. It has earned a reputation as one of the toughest and most rewarding MTB events in South America. The course is technically demanding with loose rocky descents, river crossings, steep hike-a-bike sections, and long grinding climbs on exposed mining roads. The altitude around 900-1,200 m combined with the dry winter season means cool mornings, warm midday sun, and very dusty trails. The historic setting adds a unique atmosphere as riders pass through 18th-century baroque churches and colonial architecture. Training should combine high climbing volume with technical MTB skills. Build endurance with 4-5 hour rides featuring 1,500+ meters of climbing, practice rocky terrain handling at speed, and include strength work for the hike-a-bike sections. The dry, dusty conditions demand good bike handling in low-grip situations. Nutrition strategy for 5-7 hours of riding is essential.
